At the Bondi Cinema Club Online - Tuesday 8 September - A screening of Bong Joon-ho's MOTHER (South Korea, 2009) and a discussion with the esteemed Adrian Martin

While the Bondi Pavilion is under renovation, we are moving screenings and film discussions online. This months screening is Bong’s 2009 thriller MOTHER, and guest Adrian Martin.

MOTHER is "a meticulously crafted, superbly acted drama/thriller that fascinates and enthralls from its highly unusual opening to its unforgettable final scene." (Martin)

Adrian Martin
(above) is a film & art critic and essayist based in Spain and was film critic for the Melbourne Age for 11 years. He is Adjunct Professor of Film and Screen Studies, Monash University and the author of eight books including his latest release, Mysteries of Cinema (University of Western Australia Publishing, 2020).

We expect a wide-ranging discussion with Adrian who has a polymath’s approach to film criticism, drawing on his broad knowledge and appreciation of all forms of cinema revealing connections with film art and popular culture.

Bong Joon Ho’s 2019 feature Parasite was the first foreign-language film to win the Oscar for Best Picturebringinginternational success. His early films are less well-known, despite commercial success in Korea, such films as crime thriller Memories of a Murder(2003), monster film The Host, 2006), and MOTHER (2009) are a treat.

How to watch and join the discussion?
