ON THE TELLY
Tuesday 8.30pm & Wednesday 12.15pm Fox Classics: The Eye of the Needle(1981) – full throttle spy melodrama. Nazi Donald Sutherland, (at his creepiest), exploits Kate Nelligan and her crippled husband on a remote Scottish island. Miklos Rosza’s score is suitably purple.
Thursday 12.10pm 9Gem: Brighton Rock (1947) - John Boulting directed and his brother Roy produced this seedily atmospheric version of Graham Greene’s novel about love and murder amongst the seaside racetrack gangs. Richard Attenborough stars as an underage psychopath. (Not to be confused with the dud 2010 remake.)
Friday 8.35pm Fox Classics: The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) – no-nonsense thriller about a gang who hold a NYC subway train to ransom. Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam.
