The incomparable Anita Ekberg in the unmatchable SCREAMING MIMI from Gerd Oswald.
Here in a resplendent tough edged black and white restoration on a gorgeous new Blu-ray from Imprint, licensed from Sony.
The history of auteurism is enabled by movies like this, and outstanding directors like Oswald. I would always rather watch a supposedly "minor" director like this than a most heralded "Academic master" like David Lean (although RYAN'S DAUGHTER persuasively makes its case as a Freddie Young/Bob Mitchum picture.)
This has been quite a year for Imprint. I'm still waiting for delivery of their new Blu of HELLER IN PINK TIGHTS to round off the year.
