With the passing of Abbas Kiarostami on 4 July the world of
cinema loses one of its masters. AK invented new forms of telling stories, a
process he developed over years working away in Iran without any international
attention. He and his new cinema arrived fully formed sometime in th 80s and he
never ceased to expand his way of making films, always tossing us into his narratives
through the unpredictable. The Guardian has a lengthy obituary and no
doubt much more will be written as the scholars step up.
