All Roughed Up - Sydney's supercinephile asks a polite question

Barrie Pattison writes: Where have those strident activist critics gone?

I’ve just seen three films in a row that sell on seeing attractive women getting roughed up, the way they used to in the Quinn Martin TV series of the sixties, and I can’t find anyone registering indignation.

After Neon Demon (reviewed earlier and posted here) comes Elle with Isabelle Huppert repeatedly punched out and raped and Girl on a Train which mixes a bit of Gaslight with offing a pregnant blonde.

If that’s entertainment in the Trump era I’m shifting to the point of view of my granny who thought Laurel and Hardy in Bonnie Scotland was the ideal movie.
